2023 Midwinter Carnival recap

The iconic community festival, the Dunedin Midwinter Carnival, took place this year on June 23 and 24. We thank everyone who made it to the event or supported our Boosted fundraising campaign.

This year’s theme was, “The Enchanted Forest”, which embellished the First Church’s grounds with beautiful lantern installations, each telling a story magnified by larger than life characters, story tellers and roving performers maneuvering about the grounds.

People loved seeing Brophy Aerials’ moth performers high amongst the trees and the stunning projections radiating from First Church made by Otago Polytechnic design students. Mini lantern processions, dance performances, live music, food trucks and so much more brought the longest night of the year to life like never before!

The Dunedin Midwinter Carnival is a treasured annual celebration that acknowledges our distinctive seasons in a creative and uplifting way. More event information will be released about next year’s event over the coming months. Follow our Facebook page for the latest event info or never miss a beat by subscribing to our newsletter.
