We’re still searching for some volunteer extrodinaire’s to help with the lantern making workshops! 💪🏼 It’s a dreamy ☁️ role working alongside some of our art team guiding the community through the creation of a lantern for our mini processions.Tonight our vollie coordinators will be hosting an induction evening! WE NEED YOU!Every year we recruit over 100 volunteers to make our event spectacular! As a not-for profit organisation we couldn’t do it without the hands on support of the public. Grab a bite to eat before entering the magical tunnel stepping into the midwinter wonderland of our Carnival Village on the 8th and 9th of July! 🌟Inside the village there will be hoards of entertainment on offer with multiple stages hosting dance, aerial and cultural performances and local live music for boogying. Get up close and personal with lantern displays while interacting with roving performers as they manoeuvre through the site. Tickets to the Midwinter Carnival are now LIVE!! 🙌📣📣 We’re also pleased as punch to announce our pay-it-forward option! 📣📣Following suggestions from the public the Carnival Trust is pleased to announce a pay-it-forward option will be available when purchasing tickets. The Trust has partnered with five agencies to distribute tickets as part of the campaign; New Zealand Red Cross, Te Hou Ora Whanau Services, Pacific Trust Otago , Anglican Family Care, and Presbyterian Support Otago. The campaign will enable the Trust to gift tickets to partner charities who will then provide them to the families they engage with. Pay It Forward will be available from now via our website until June 30. This gives ample time to distribute tickets to partner charities to then pass on. Drum roll please....🥁The theme for this years MWC: 🌟 ISLANDS OF LIGHT 🌟 and tickets are LIVE NOW on our website 🤩 www.midwintercarnival.co.nz/ticketing/Taking inspo from a favourite lantern, Artistic Director Rochelle Brophy wanted to find a way to incorporate multiple lantern installations into one theme. “Light and creativity in the middle of winter is what we do, so we are taking our audience on a journey through different islands of light. The church itself is a place of light and hope and the Midwinter Carnival with its beautiful lanterns is also about bringing light, warmth and community in the depths of winter.” Our magical Carnival Village will play host to several large scale lantern installations, within these installations we’ll be representing different ‘islands’ of light providing you the chance to get up-close like never before!Huge shout out to Jakira Brophy for our poster artwork, and to @artdesignfilm for graphic design. This years Midwinter Carnival is shaping up to be a truly enchanting encounter! ❄️❄️❄️Stroll through the Night Market and sample its offerings before grabbing your ticket to our magical Carnival Village, make your way through the tunnel, and be transported! The Carnival Village will host an array of entertainment to ensure an experience like never before. Enjoy multiple stages with live music, dance, contortionists and cultural performances. Witness Aerial silk performances, roving performers and characters as you manoeuvre your way around the spectacular lantern installations dotted around the site.
